Product Details

Canine toxoplasmosis refers to a protozoan infectious disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii, most commonly seen in puppies, and the relevant personnel should conduct a comprehensive analysis of the diagnosis and treatment of canine toxoplasmosis to help ensure the health of dogs.

Clinical symptoms

As different dogs have different physical qualities and adaptability, the clinical symptoms of toxoplasmosis in pet dogs are also somewhat different. Generally speaking, the acute symptoms are more significant in young dogs and youth dogs, while adult dogs are mostly hidden carriers.

Clinical symptoms of acute toxoplasmosis include depression, loss of appetite, fever, discharge from the eyes and nose, accompanied by coughing and breathlessness. In addition, dogs with more severe symptoms may have haemorrhagic diarrhoea or even ataxia leading to death.

Toxoplasmosis in female dogs of childbearing age may lead to abortion and stillbirth.

Transmission route

At this stage, research indicates that the transmission route of toxoplasmosis in pet dogs is mainly through infective hides egg sacs. Since the transmission of toxoplasmosis requires an intermediate host and a final host, i.e. cats, Toxoplasma gondii will proliferate and reproduce in the small intestine of the cat host and form hides oocysts, which will be excreted with the cat faeces.

Once pet dogs come into contact with cat faeces or other carriers containing Toxoplasma gondii hides oocysts, the transmission of toxoplasmosis and infection may result. In addition, since the development of Toxoplasma gondii is divided into two stages: tachyzoites and bradyzoites, the disease can also be transmitted if the contact target of the pet dog contains tachyzoites of Toxoplasma gondii.

Laboratory diagnosis

In addition to clinical diagnosis, targeted laboratory diagnosis is also needed to ensure that the final diagnostic conclusions are accurate, thereby enhancing the relevance and effectiveness of subsequent treatment measures. Generally speaking, laboratory diagnosis can be divided into the following aspects.

The first is microscopic examination, can be for suspected sick dog venous blood, faeces or secretion sampling and in accordance with the relevant norms of the laboratory to make a smear, using a microscope on the suspected sick dog samples within the smear whether the presence of toxoplasma eggs for observation. Although this diagnostic method is faster, there may be some errors in the results, so it is mostly used as an auxiliary diagnostic tool.

Secondly, serum antibody test, through the collection of serum samples of suspected sick dogs for test paper testing, and observe the final test results, once the final antibody test is positive, it indicates that the dog has been infected with Toxoplasma gondii, this way of detection is fast, easy to operate, and with high testing accuracy, it has become the mainstream way of diagnostics used in the laboratory at present.
